The Secret Temples

July 12, 2010 | Click here to print.

A poem by Suryakant Small
a mountain tall and sacred
stands white against the sky
Lord Shiva sits upon it
an asan pure and high
great temples of the ages
where pilgrims stop and pray
to India’s great sages
for grace to light their way
so many awesome places
where Rama’s glory shines
don’t think His awesome grace is
found only in such shrines
for far from India’s temples
far from the Kailash snows
there are the secret temples
of which Guruji knows
perhaps with votive candles
or castings of His feet
with malas and with asans
they somehow seem complete
their keepers are disciples
who struggle every day
to listen to Guruji
to meditate and pray
to keep the faith and practice
so far from India’s lands
and merge with Ram forever
through sweet Guruji’s hands
