Ma’s Blessing: Dashera, 12/2009

24 June 2010 2 Comments Print article Print article

Dear aspects of my own soul, the very presence of the Lord as Ram and Sita in your hearts, I offer my pranams to all of you.

When Lord Shiva was conversing with the Mother, Parvati, he said that besides the name of the Lord and the name of Ram, everything else in creation is false. We are here together today on the ninth day of Navratri and tomorrow, the tenth day, known as vijaya dashmi. During these ten days, the concept and understanding is that the individual should do something to control, and transcend the five senses of both action and knowledge.  Navratri is all about the victory over these ten senses. The very name of Lord Rama’s father, Dasharath, the one who had absolute control over these ten senses, symbolizes the tenth day of Navratri.

The ultimate goal, through the victory over the senses, is to control the mind. With that control, we need to close the nine doors of the body and open the tenth door, the sahasrar, to unite the soul with the universal and achieve our very worth. The tenth day of victory that we celebrate as Dashera, is the victory of Lord Ram over the various negative forces and tendencies. These negative forces, demons, whatever you want to call them, are a part of daily life, both internally and externally. The whole battle of life is to be able to overcome those forces, within and without, and to be in absolute control of the mind.  What is running around externally needs to be stopped, checked, and made internal; that is what the victory of life is all about.

We may easily know and recognize our external enemies, but the internal ones are harder to recognize. Many may be unknown, many may be lurking around, remaining hidden, and so we fail to approach them correctly. Everyone, including children, feels that what they are doing is correct and perfect. But to some degree or another, each and every one of us has those negative tendencies of fear, anger, hatred, lust, greed, jealousy and so forth that need to be controlled. On the spiritual path, the greatest battle is with the individual ego. The feeling that I am right, I am correct; everyone else is wrong is nothing but the ego, the biggest block in spiritual evolution.

We have the great blessing of Guruji whom we have allowed into our lives and he, like Vishvamitra, has also brought Lord Ram into our lives. That ultimate state of peace and bliss will be achieved through the practices of Lord Ram. Guruji joined the battle with us in fighting the internal and external enemies that we face. We need to become very active in keeping up with the practices and not allow the mind to run around externally through the nine doors. Guruji has very lovingly given us the tools to overcome obstacles and realize our true selves but if we do not utilize those tools to achieve what is truly meant to be achieved in human life, then who is more unfortunate than us?

With the greatest gift of shaktipat itself, the Ram mantra, the techniques of pranayam, meditation, and the Vajra Panjar teachings, what has He not given us?

Guruji used to say that even if you hold onto and practice just one of these intensely, then the goal is not too far. With the greatest gift of shaktipat itself, the Ram mantra, the techniques of pranayam, meditation, and the Vajra Panjar teachings, what has He not given us? Guruji used to say that even if you hold onto and practice just one of these intensely, then the goal is not too far. So when I think of the tremendous levels of hard work Guruji put in for our welfare, what has He not given and granted? When He was almost a hundred years old he recorded the bij mantras what we heard today. The amount of energy required for this and the amount of stress He underwent is beyond the grasp of the mind. We have done it a couple of times, when Guruji asked us and it is clearly evident how stressful it is even just physically.

So over the years, Guruji Himself has worked so hard for our peace and welfare and now that you have received such love and grace from this great being, please do not lose it. Please be very alert, thorough and consistent with your practices; seal those nine doors and work aggressively on opening the tenth. We individuals create own universe through the energies of the individual mind. Slowly but surely work towards giving up those desires that pull us from the practices and let them dissolve at the feet of God. We have gone through several earlier lives and we may go through a lot more if we don’t wake up. Become very alert and active, and until the goal itself is reached, practice with tremendous determination.

Be content, be satisfied with whatever situations and whatever you have or don’t have in life, and use whatever we have towards reaching that goal.

Today I have a very special request, almost a command. Many of you may still be holding on to some negative habits. Whether you smoke, whether you drink, whether you chew tobacco, whatever that may be, today is the day to offer it at the feet of the Mother, offer it at my feet. These are all drops of poison; slowly but surely they are destroying the very temple of the Lord.  This is contradictory to the very roots of creation so make every effort, take every step to get rid of them. The human body is a priceless gift, the temple of God, so utilizing it to achieve that final goal is our duty and our dharma. Don’t go downward but make sure you ascend towards that ultimate light, transcend to be God and not go down again to the animal state.  You know whom I’m addressing, so please take that to heart and offer it at the feet of the Mother, offer it at my feet today, all those negativities, so that you may be free. There is no other wish or hope or purpose other than reaching back to the ocean from where you have come; that drop that you are needs to merge back; you have to attain your own welfare. Also become very openhearted and open-minded. Don’t hold onto the little interactions that come about at the human level; let those little things flow away, like the garbage in the sewer, and don’t pull it back. These little things become seeds of rebirth, so be sure that you let go and don’t hang on to those tendencies. Be content, be satisfied with whatever situations and whatever you have or don’t have in life, and use whatever we have towards reaching that goal. May you all achieve the absolute goal, the unconditional love of God, and the exceptional grace that will take you to that final destination.
